Low Back Pain is the most common presentation in a typical Physiotherapy clinic and most other allied health professions. It ranks second only to upper respiratory infections as the main cause for presentation to a Doctor and for sick leave/ lost work productivity.
In most patients low back pain is a symptom, not a specific disease. Low back pain is usually described as discomfort in the lumbosacral region (lower portion) of the back that may or may not radiate to the legs, hips, and buttocks. The pain may be due to a variety of causes, and many individuals’ cases show large variation in behaviour and presentation. A small percentage may have a serious disease unrelated to the back.
